REPORTING A CHANGE OF ADDRESS

You are required by law to report to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) your initial address and any change of address in the United States within 10 days of moving. For administrative purposes, you will also need to report your address to Washington University each time you move.

To report a change of address to DHS, you will need to submit Form AR-11. Persons who are subject to special registration must complete Form AR-11SR. For information on special registration, please see the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website on special registration at:
http://www.ice.gov/nseers/

Both Forms AR-11 and AR-11SR can be downloaded and printed from the USCIS website at http://www.uscis.gov, under "Forms". The forms should be sent to the address in London, Kentucky, which is listed on the bottom of the form.

You should make a copy of the completed and signed Form AR-11 (or AR-11SR) before sending it to USCIS. Also, you should send your Form AR-11 (or AR-11SR) using "return-receipt requested" service from the U.S. Postal Service or an overnight delivery service, such as Federal Express or the United Parcel Service (UPS), as proof that your form was delivered to and received by USCIS. Keep copies of both your completed Form AR-11 (or AR-11SR) and delivery receipt for the entire duration of your stay in the U.S.

The AR-11 form can also be submitted electronically to the DHS at https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=coa. Note that if you choose this option to report your first address, you will have to enter "N/A" in any fields that do not apply to you, such as "Last Address" and "A Number". Also, make sure you print a copy of the final submitted form.

When completing the form, please keep in mind the following:

  • The "Present Address" must be the address where you physically live.
  • The "Present Address" must be a street address and not a post office box.
  • As a nonimmigrant, you should complete the portion of the form that asks if the address is temporary. By definition, a nonimmigrant does not have a permanent U.S. address.
  • List your department’s address for the section asking for the "Employer’s Name or Name of School."
  • For the section marked "Port of Entry into U.S." list the last place that you entered the United States (this is indicated on your I-94 card).

To report any change of address to Washington University, you will need to use the HRMS Self Service function found at the HR website. Click on "Login to HRMS" at the right side of the page. Should you have any difficulties with this website, please contact the payroll office at (314) 935-6650.

If you have any questions about reporting your change of address, please contact the Office for International Students and Scholars at oiss@wustl.edu or by calling (314) 935-5910.
